Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

Merry Christmas! We have had some super adoptions during the past week which included many of our wonderful START dogs. Here are the latest adoptees who will be spending their first Christmas in their forever homes.

Speaking of Gus, I was at WHS when his family took him home. I said, “Wait, wait, I have a Santa hat he can wear for a picture.” I’m sure I heard Gus utter a sigh, but he was a good sport. Have a wonderful life, Gus!

Gus new family

I may be a bit older, but I’ll be your BEST friend!

The Sunday afternoon dog walkers were as cooperative as the Wednesday group was when I hauled out my Santa hats! Here is Wendi with little Tuffy, an eleven-year-old Shih Tzu who would like to be an only dog and your best friend. He has already won the hearts of many staff and volunteers with his affectionate ways. He’s hoping for a new home for Christmas.

Yes, I may look quite serious, but underneath, I’m a happy girl!

Here is Brittney with Samantha, a very sweet, though serious, two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was originally supposed to be one of the dogs Randy and I picked up at the airport from the Wings of Rescue flights, but she missed the plane! She flew in the next day. Samantha was adopted once, but returned because she wanted to play with the cat and the cat was not happy. So she needs to be in a cat-less home. She is great with kids, has a wonderful temperament, loves to ride in the car and is just a super family dog. Don’t let her serious look fool you. She is a delight.

I’m Milo and I’m looking for a new home for Christmas!

Meet Milo, another Pit Bull Terrier mix who was willing to wear a Santa hat as long as volunteer Breanna did, too! Milo is one of our START dogs who loves to play as well as relax with a person. He takes treats gently and likes to be told he’s a good boy, which he is! He was a great sport about wearing Christmas attire.

I’m new here…not sure about the lady with the Santa hats!

When I arrived at the shelter this afternoon, I promised both the other walkers and the dogs that today was the last day for dress-up and there were audible cheers from both groups (imagine that!). Little George, a six-year-old Terrier mix who is new to the shelter didn’t know quite what to make of me or the Santa hat I placed on his head. George is a bit shy, but was amazingly cooperative, willing to put up with me as long as I supplied him with hot dog bits, which he took gently. He liked Larry and enjoyed his time outside.

We’re both new to the shelter!

I was delighted to meet a new walker today. This is Laura holding new arrival Peanut, a two-year-old Chihuahua. Peanut is a delight. She has lived with both cats and other dogs and gotten along fine with them. She loves to cuddle in a person’s lap, but is also playful. Although she hasn’t lived with children, she has liked them when they visited. She was totally cooperative with the Santa outfit and is a great little dog.

We’re both shy and hoping for quiet homes where we can relax.

Ruth and Maxwell share the same kennel and have become good friends, but they do not have to be adopted together. They are a comfort to each other while in the shelter. When I first saw them this afternoon, they were sitting in their bed looking quite nervous. Ruth is a three-year-old Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix and Maxwell is a nine-month old Chihuahua mix. Here they are with Harley, one of my favorite young volunteers from summer dog camp. After taking this photo, Harley and I took them into the playroom and they had a blast running between us and hopping in our laps. They are both START dogs and will make wonderful new family members.

And by the way, Harley has started a group called Humane a TEENs which has a Facebook page by the same name. You can read more about her WHS activities there.

Did you see me in the Statesman Journal? Now I really AM a star!

Of course, I couldn’t be at the shelter and not spend some time with Rockstar. If you get the Statesman Journal, you might have seen the article in Sunday’s paper about Rockstar and me. I’m hoping it will result in more people reading my blog and adopting more dogs! Rockstar is getting quite used to wearing the Santa hat and didn’t even complain when I put it on him!

Finally, it wouldn’t be my Christmas post without a “card” from the dogs and volunteers at WHS. We all hope you’ll enjoy our very Merry Christmas wishes. We appreciate our readers so much!

Remember, if you would like an email alert whenever I have published a new post, please sign up on the right side of this entry.

Also, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the Willamette Humane Society soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.
