Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

I’ve spent the past week in Florida visiting family, but took my computer and have kept up on adoptions. Here are the lucky Blog Dogs who went to their new homes.

Page_3 Page_1

I was especially excited about two of the adoptions: Grommet and Beatrice. Grommet has been waiting since January for his forever family, and had become such a favorite of both staff and volunteers that there were tears of happiness from many. Beatrice, at 87 pounds, was so big for her kennel that I was also thrilled when her new family found her. Here is a staff picture sent to me just before she went home.

While I missed Sunday’s play group, a couple of staff members sent me some cute pictures of what they reported was a terrific time. Although I didn’t get to hear the chatter, the pictures speak for themselves.

This little character, Dini, is a one-year-old Chihuahua mix.

Another newbie is Lindi, an eight-year-old Pug/Beagle mix.

10256528_10203011958035125_1410607309630528853_nOne of my current favorites, Thelma, was quite the jokester! Kim said, “She just quietly walked up to the bench and stuck her head under the arm rest and grabbed the bottle! She walked away nonchalantly and took it under the platform, then decided on top was better.” Thelma is a delightful three-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who has been at the shelter since March 5. Let’s find her new family soon!

Need a hound in your family? Well, you found me!

Meet Nana, a one-year-old purebred Plott Hound. Nana’s former owners say she is great with kids and very loving. She has been an outside dog only, so will need some house training with her new family. As a young hound, she will require plenty of exercise and room to follow her nose. I haven’t gotten to know her well yet, but here she was with Bruce last week. I’m hoping a hound-savvy family will find this sweet girl soon!

Dog Flash! — Emma here…

Well, that’s as far into this blog post that Martha got before she and her husband headed to Florida to visit family last week. She fully expected to be back at WHS for her regular dog-walking-and-picture-taking shift so she could finish it. However, a staff member just brought an urgent message from her to me in my kennel. It seems she and John got stranded in Salt Lake City last night due to weather conditions in the southeast and won’t be back in Salem until late today. She asked me to finish writing this post and I’m happy to help! If you are a regular reader of Martha’s blog, you know me well! But if you are a new reader, let me introduce myself.

Emma2 EmmaMy name is Emma. I was rescued in California by a very kind lady who found me on her street after I was abandoned. She wanted to keep me, but she couldn’t, and she tried really hard to find me a home. After I was in a shelter in California for four months, the kind lady told S.T.A.R.T. (Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team) about me and they decided I’d have a much better chance at getting adopted in Oregon. So I became an Oregon dog. After several months here at WHS, I was finally adopted in December by a family with a wonderful little boy who called me “My Sweet Emma.” I took good care of him (I love children) and his parents loved me and said I was a perfectly behaved house dog. However, because of my former life in California, I have chronic ear and skin allergies that were very annoying for both me and my family. They tried to stay on top of my condition, but they were very busy and just couldn’t manage it. Finally they decided it wasn’t fair to me that they couldn’t give me the care I need, so they brought me back to the shelter.

Now I’m waiting for a new family that I hope will be my forever people. Maybe it’s one of you who are reading this post! I am a three-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix.  I need a family who can keep ahead of my ear and skin allergies with special meds and food. (I really like my food!) I love people, especially children! I am picky about my dog friends, however, so I should be my family’s only pet. I walk very well on leash, I’m gentle, I love to chase a tennis ball (though I do get distracted and don’t return it to you), and I know several commands.  A couple of weeks ago, I was chosen to represent shelter dogs at our Humaneitarian Awards reception. Everyone said I was a star! Here’s a picture of me from it.

Anyway, that’s my story. I’ve been waiting to meet you for several weeks now. The staff and volunteers take very good care of me and my ears and skin have really cleared up since being back at WHS and I feel great! I can’t wait to finally have my forever family. I promise to be the best dog you ever had!

We’re new here, looking for new homes!

Now I’d like to tell you about two other dogs who are also waiting for their new homes. I saw Debbie and Emelynn out with these two when I was on my walk last week. Meet Mater (left) and Koda. They are both eleven years old and are Miniature Poodles. They are happy little characters and I couldn’t believe they are eleven! They certainly don’t act like it! They don’t have to be adopted together, they are just looking for forever homes. They could use a haircut, but I didn’t say anything, I didn’t want to hurt their feelings. I hope they get adopted soon, too.

DSCN1412

Thanks, Emma, for filling in for me! I’m back tonight, just in time to add this note from Emelynn who walked dogs this afternoon.

Emelynn’s Pick of the Week!

“I decided to bring Cheeseburger home for a respite to stay the night with my sister, Annestelle, it’s her birthday. They absolutely love each other! It’s the cutest thing! She’s already fed him and taken him for a walk, and he loves having his own little girl almost as much as she loves having her own puppy, even if it’s just for a night. He’s doing great with the dogs (even though they’re overwhelming him a bit) and just loves kissing, cuddling, and playing with everyone.”

Cheeseburger is a five-month-old Chhuahua mix pup who is looking for a family who will help him grow into the good adult boy he wants to become. His adoption package even includes a WHS class called “Surviving Puppyhood.” He’s been waiting for his new family for over a month, so we’re hoping he’ll find his perfect match very soon! Maybe these pictures will help!

Joseph

I have two updates about two very special dogs. First, here are the latest pictures from Joseph’s family. I’m sure you’ll remember that Joseph was rescued in California after spending his first five years on a chain. He is living such a wonderful life now with a terrific family of boys who love him. Lucky Joseph, lucky family!

Precious/Jinni

Some of you may remember Precious who arrived as a S.T.A.R.T. dog from California last November. Here is what I wrote about her then.

The first time I met Precious, she was trembling in her kennel, afraid at first to even take a treat from me. It took some coaxing to get her to go outside where I took this picture.

DSCN1444Here’s the latest from her adopter, Alicia.

“Jinni is doing great. In the last month, she has actually started acting more like a dog, rather than a very shy, scared, tired and traumatized little girl. It has been delightful to see her run and play flirt pole and lie in the sun on the back deck. She is clearly a California Girl. I call her that, as she does not like the rain, at all. Her little personality continues to emerge and she is increasingly expressive. My heart laughs in delight at all the little sounds her body makes. She snores like a logger, burps, has occasional gas sounds, yawns loudly, and snorts, but rarely barks. She is an absolute joy and we adore her, as does our Sterling. As the weather improves, I will try my best to get a couple photos of her in the yard, but as I have mentioned, it is very difficult to photograph her, even still. If she sees what I am doing she moves or comes right up next to me. That still seems to scare her. Her coat is so beautiful and she has filled out in her chest and face. I love looking at her.”

Next week will be back to a normal post! In the meantime, I hope there will be many new adoptions!

Remember, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the Willamette Humane Society soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.

Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

Even with Willamette Humane Society being closed Easter Day, we still had a number of terrific dog adoptions last week! Among them were these Blog Dogs.

Page_3 Page_2 Page_1Page_5Page_4

WHS staff sent me these two going-home pictures. First, here is Bruno’s new family!

Bruno going home

And this is Beauty with her new family.

Beauty goes homeSince there was no Sunday play group, there is no chatter to report this week. But even though there was no organized play on Easter, dedicated walkers got all of the dogs out for morning and evening walks—another of the many reasons why WHS is an amazing shelter.

I’m back at WHS looking for a special home.

I’m sure you will remember Emma. After being rescued in California, transported to WHS through S.T.A.R.T., and waiting for months, she was finally adopted last December. Emma became a “nanny dog” to her own little boy who called her, “My sweet Emma.” Though the family loved her and reported that she was a perfectly behaved family member, Emma’s chronic ear infections and skin allergies were too much for the young, busy family to keep on top of. Thus, after four months, they returned Emma to us. Here she was on her second day back when I took her out to the big yard.

DSCN0631 EmmaEmma is a three-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix.  She needs a family who can keep ahead of her ear and skin allergies with special meds and food. She is a wonderful people dog, especially loving children. She is picky about her dog friends, however, and so should be the family’s only pet. She walks very well on leash, is gentle, loves to chase a tennis ball (though gets distracted and doesn’t return it), and knows several commands. She has many fans both in California and at WHS. In fact, she was chosen to represent shelter dogs at our recent Humaneitarian Awards reception last Wednesday evening. She was quite the star and thoroughly enjoyed herself. I’m so hoping Sweet Emma won’t have to wait another long time before finding her perfect family.

DSC_0012 DSC_0004 DSC_0015DSC_0154 DSC_0149Here Emma was today with Jed and Stephanie. She wasn’t excited about the rain!

How cute am I, you ask? Yep, THIS cute!

Last Wednesday afternoon, Debbie and I met this little doll, a Maltese mix named Marmalade. She was found as a stray, so we don’t know her history, but both Debbie and I think she’s adorable. She’s about eight months old. I have a feeling she’ll be adopted very quickly!

Marmalade and Deb MarmaladeDSCN1024

Marmalade was a cone dog today, having been spayed, but she enjoyed her time with Joan anyway.

I’m still at my foster home enjoying my foster siblings. But I’d like a family of my own!

Patches’ movie that I put in last week’s post has been viewed 430 times as I write this! However, she is still at her foster home, waiting for the perfect family to adopt her. When she arrived at the shelter from California on February 8th, Patches was a very scared, very shy one-year-old Terrier/Hound mix. She has come a long, long way from her early shelter days in her loving foster home with her four foster siblings. If you haven’t viewed Patches’ movie, check it out in last week’s post. I’m so hoping that I can soon report that Patches has found her forever home.

Here are some of the pictures I took when I visited Patches at Jolene’s. If you have read my blog posts for awhile, you’ll recognize one of our long-termers and favorites, Gilbert, too!

I’m feeling oh so much better!

When I first met Oreo several weeks ago, he looked so sad. He had injured his left eye in his former home and it looked painful. A couple of weeks later when I checked on him, his damaged eye had been removed and he was wearing a cone. Then last Wednesday I was thrilled when the eye socket was healed and the cone was gone. He was one happy little character, as you can see in the photo below! Oreo is a one-year-old Chihuahua mix who is now ready for a brand-new life. He would like a home with polite kids and to be an only dog, but if you have a cat, that’s okay with him. He was an outside-only dog in his last home and would like to be inside, but he’ll need guidance in house training. This little guy is a delightful boy, and Debbie and I both hope he’ll be going home soon!

My fans cannot believe I haven’t found my forever home yet!

I am amazed that Donna is still waiting for a family at the shelter. This sweetheart couldn’t be a more perfect addition to an active family. Donna is a four-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix. She gets along well with all kinds of dogs, loves people, is playful, happy, and walks well on leash. She is one of our S.T.A.R.T. dogs from California. Some family is going to be mighty lucky when they adopt Donna. I hope that is soon! Here she was last week with Jasmine.

DSCN1142

Yep. It’s been another week and I’m still here waiting. I just know my special person is out there somewhere!

I wasn’t surprised when I saw Tricia out with Grommet today, as he has become her favorite at the shelter. We can’t understand why this wonderful dog hasn’t gotten adopted yet. He is a six-year-old Retriever/Chow Chow mix. He is calm, gets along with other dogs, walks well on leash, and is an all-around great dog. He has been at WHS since January and continues to patiently wait for a new family to find him. He wants to be an indoor dog and with his quiet demeanor, he’d be great inside. He is loved by both staff and volunteers who can’t wait until he finds his perfect match.

DSCN1247

I’ve been waiting here a long time, too.

Thelma is another long-termer, having arrived from California in early March. She is a three-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who always has a smile. She is active and eager to please. She’ll do well with older kids or adults. Thelma has been working hard on her inside-the-kennel skills and has improved greatly in the time she’s been at WHS. Jolene is one of Thelma’s many fans.

I can’t wait for my new family to find me!

Elaina is a two-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She was very nervous when she first arrived at WHS in March, but after spending time in a foster home, she is much more relaxed and happy. Here’s what her foster said about her. “Elaina is an amazing dog. We went on lots of walks and she really enjoys them. Very good on the leash, and doesn’t pull! She never even barked once! She loves to jump and play around. Elaina is very affectionate, but with her size and energy level, she would do best with sturdy, dog-savvy kids. When left alone, she didn’t show any destructive behaviors. She just politely waited for me to get back. She can be very shy in new environments and with new people, but as long as they are respectful she warms up quickly. Elaina met my cats and was terrified of them. She is house-trained!” Emelynn spent time with this sweet girl today and fell in love with her.

DSCN1300 DSCN1301

Yep, I had Kathy wrapped around my paw in no time! Now for YOU!

As soon as I saw Precious, an eleven-year-old American Cocker Spaniel mix, I knew that Kathy would spend lots of time with her. (Kathy LOVES Cockers!) Precious may be an older gal, but you’d never know it. She has a spring in her step, took my treats eagerly, and was happy to pose for pictures. She will make a wonderful companion for someone who wants to go for walks around the neighborhood, then relax in the evening. We’re hoping Precious will soon be in her new home.

DSCN1306

Emelynn’s Pick of the Week!

Emelynn first met Roxy last week, before she was adoptable. Roxy is a three-year-old Boxer/Pit Bull Terrier mix who is quite shy. She loved spending time with Emelynn both last week and today. Last Wednesday Emelynn sat outside and read a book while Roxy curled up beside her. Today the two of them just sat, enjoying being together. The pictures speak for themselves. We’re hoping that Roxy will find a home with a calm, understanding person who will help her gain confidence.
