Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

As Thanksgiving nears, we are hoping that many of our shelter dogs will be spending the holidays with new forever families. This week there were ten dog adoptions. Some of the dogs were so new to WHS that I didn’t even get to introduce them to you. Here are the Blog dogs who went home since my last post.

page_2For the many fans of Rose, yes, she did get to go swimming last Friday and thoroughly enjoyed her cheeseburger afterward. Then she packed her toys and went home. Here is her announcement, which of course, she wanted to make herself.

rose-goes-home-2Even though Rose is now enjoying her new beginning, I decided to include shots of her exciting swim date. She loves the pool more than any other shelter dog we have taken to Bailey’s Journey. She was a hoot to watch!

I just LOVE to run! Wouldn’t you like to play fetch with me?

Chloe is a two-year-old Border Collie mix who is such a beautiful girl!

ChloeChloe came to us from another shelter so we don’t know much about her. We do know, however, that she absolutely LIVES for playing ball with her peeps. She has been in playgroup, but doesn’t seem to have been around other dogs much, so her manners aren’t the best. She can be easily redirected, however, verbally by playgroup humans. Chloe is a happy, eager girl looking for a family with children (13+) who enjoy throwing tennis balls and going for walks. She’s very smart and enjoys learning new things, maybe agility? She would thrive in WHS classes. Watch how she plays fetch!

I’m very shy but I’m sure I will gain confidence if I go home with you!

Chaplin is a one-year-old American Bulldog mix who is one of our ASPCA transfers. He came to us fearful and nervous, but is gradually gaining some independence. WHS’ Behavior and Training Team is working with him to help him feel more brave.

ChaplinChaplin is uneasy around other dogs and loud noise and tries to avoid any conflict by attempting to leave what is causing his anxiety. This sweet boy needs a family with older, calm kids who will give him the space, patience and understanding to become the confident dog he wants to be. Marianne and I took Chaplin out to the big yard for some quiet, relaxed interaction. Such a good boy!

Looking for a dog to go on adventures with? Pick ME! Pick ME!

Meet Astro, a one-year-old Bull Terrier mix who was adopted from WHS as a puppy. He is now back, having grown up into an active, eager guy looking for someone who loves a dog with a big personality! Astro is a lot of happy dog. When we asked him what his favorite activities were in his previous home, he said hiking, walking, swimming, going to the beach, playing fetch and tug of war. He also said he LOVES to cuddle with his peeps at the end of a busy day. Oh, and Astro wants you to know that in his last home, he lived successfully with a cat! Astro knows several commands and is house-trained. He also tremendously enjoys rough-and-tumble play with other rough-and-tumble playing dogs, but would be too rowdy for some dogs. This handsome boy will need an active family with kids thirteen and older, as he’s not one to sit around the house or yard with nothing to do. But the joys and love he will bring to such a family will be great. We’re hoping his perfect fit will find him soon! Here he was with Laslo on Sunday.

Marianne and I took Astro out this afternoon and had such a good time with him. He loves to play fetch, although, he isn’t big on actually dropping the ball so it can be thrown again.

Yes, I’m a Beagle. Are you one of those Beagle people who just loves us?

Lucy is a fun little character, which is no surprise since she’s a Beagle. Lucy is a senior, at nine years old, and is looking for a retirement home where she can spend the rest of her life hanging out with her family. She does fine with children, though now that she’s no longer a youngster, she’d prefer older, gentle children. She does not care to be around cats. Lucy lost her best Beagle friend several years ago and missed him a great deal, so a home with another gentle dog would be perfect for her. Lucy is house-trained and even litter-trained! She will be so easy to have around, as she no longer needs long walks or an active lifestyle. Her perfect day is to hang out with her person, maybe go for a short walk, then curl up and doze at your feet. Here she was with Jenna on Sunday.

I’m still here waiting for just the right person! Maybe it’s YOU?

Betty is a three-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix who has been waiting for her perfect family fit since October 24th. Betty is house-trained, loves squeaky toys, knows several commands, and is very affectionate. She would like an active family, since she LOVES to play. She also needs understanding and patient peeps who will help her overcome her fear of strangers (especially men), and new situations. She is a rough-and-tumble player and would do well with a male dog her size having a similar play style. Her human kids need to be ten and older. Betty has won the hearts of many volunteers at the shelter and we’re all hoping she’ll go home soon. Here she is with Marianne today.

I’m waiting for a new family…but I had a nice day today.

Zara is a one-year-old mixed breed girl who came to us from another shelter. We don’t know her history, but she has won my heart. As beautiful as this girl is, she usually looks very serious. Here’s her typical look. I wish potential adopters could see the other side of her.

ZaraAnd here it is! On Sunday I got her to smile!

Zara ZaraHere she was with Linda later in the day.

ZaraZara enjoys playing with other dogs in playgroup, though she can be a bit picky about her friends. She walks beautifully on leash, but can be somewhat reactive to some  dogs. She loves being with people and I’m sure will be a wonderful best friend. She should go home with older kids, thirteen and above. This afternoon when I took her out for her walk she was back to her serious self.

Watch what a polite girl she is.

Then we went to a yard so I could get some video of her to show you what a fun dog she is. We’re hoping she will get found by her perfect family soon!

I’m a favorite of Audrey’s!

I thought I was finished with this post, but then this evening I got the following email from Audrey, one of our Wednesday morning dog walkers. It was about Mocha.

“I am hoping you were able to mention a favorite of mine, Mocha. She can’t be more perfect but she is a quiet one so probably isn’t getting noticed. She is a seven-year-old Lab mix, very gentle and sweet. She is easy to harness, patient, and never barks or gets agitated at other dogs. Walking her is a real treat, no pulling, just an easy saunter down the path. I am worried she will be one of those not noticed and not adopted quickly. I think she is a true gem.”

So Audrey, this post is for YOU! Mocha is looking for a family with children ten and older. She has enjoyed playgroup, but can be a little picky about her friends. She is affectionate and loves being with people. We’re hoping she WILL be noticed by her perfect fit of a family very soon! Here Mocha is with Marianne.

Updates!

Echo!

Echo was one of those sweet dogs for whom I fell, hook, line and sinker nearly five years ago. She was very shy and afraid of new situations when she came to WHS. She was adopted once, but returned. Then she found her forever family and began a wonderful rest of her life.

EchoEcho’s family sent this update this week:

“We adopted Echo almost 5 years ago, she’s now twelve years old and still acts like a youngster most of the time. We go to the dog park daily and she might not play for very long, but she plays hard.  She’s kind of a ham at the park walking from person to person getting attention from everyone she meets. She still loves to chase cats and squirrels outside, but at home she lives with 2 cats that she loves, 2 brothers, one of them is a puppy who loves to keep her on her toes and playing. She also lives with sugar gliders and every now and then they get out of the cage and use her as a trampoline! It really amazes me how she accepts any animal that comes into the house. Honestly, there still isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for her being in my life, she is so very special, spoiled rotten and loved.”

Zoey

I got another update about our sweet, thirteen-year-old Zoey last week in the form of two videos. For her many WHS fans, have some Kleenex ready! 🙂

On those happy notes, that’s it for this week!

Betty

Remember, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the Willamette Humane Society soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.
