Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

We had some long-awaited dog adoptions during the past week and I can’t wait to tell you about them.

First, our sweet elder statesman, Buzz, had been spending time at volunteer Susan’s house as a respite from the stress of the shelter when his future person walked in the door of WHS and asked to meet him. Who happened to be at the desk when the man asked? Yep, Susan! Off she went to her home to get Buzz and the rest is history. We are over the moon about this perfect match! Here’s a picture Susan sent to me of the pair.

On Sunday, we spent a lot of quality time with one of our long-term favorites, Paloma, so I could get new pictures of her for this post. Then when I got home and was processing her pics, she got adopted! I decided to use one of my favorite shots from Sunday to let you know.

Last week there was a new arrival, found as a stray, that we named Jasper. What a perfect dog he is! I was planning on featuring him, too, in this post, but again, he was adopted as soon as he became available. Even so, I decided to show you this shot with Caroline. One of his endearing qualities is his sense of humor.

 

I’m back again. I’m still waiting for my perfect fit of a family. I just KNOW they are out there somewhere. I hope they find me soon.

Yep, our sweet Girlie is back once again. She has now been adopted and returned three times. Through these trials and errors, we have discovered that she cannot live with cats, and that she will need a patient and understanding person who will give her the time and attention she needs to settle into a new home. But she will be so worth the effort it will take. Each of her adopters has written about her gentle, affectionate personality and her love to be with her people. Marianne is one of Girlie’s biggest fans. Here’s what she wrote about her a few weeks ago.

“Girlie is my current favorite dog at the shelter. While Girlie has some spunk and energy for an older dog, she is one of the most affectionate, cuddly dogs I have met.  She wants nothing more than to be close to her person and is so very loving.  She is smart and treat-motivated which will make her easy to train—she has learned some basic commands quickly.  But again, the best thing about her is her exceptionally sweet personality.  She would love a family of her own and could live with sturdy older kids.  She does need to be the only animal, but she will be all that you need.  I picture her taking walks and maybe playing fetch. After that, she will be content to curl up by your side and give lots of love.  She is a very special dog, and I think she is gorgeous.  Please don’t pass her by—take a chance to get to know her!”

We are sure the perfect person is out there for this wonderful, happy girl. We just have to find them. To that end, I’ve made another Girlie movie to show both her playful and her affectionate sides.

 

 

 

 

I’m very energetic. That’s why my name is Busy!

I met this very active ten-year-old Miniature Pinscher mix aptly named Busy for the first time on Sunday. She is an eager, playful, and adorable little dog who came to us from another shelter where she was found as a stray, so we don’t know her history. Busy is house-trained and knows several commands. She is highly treat-motivated, and I quickly found out she loves cheese. She does need to work on taking treats politely, so is rated PG+13. She has done well in playgroup with other little dogs; she has been social and mingles with others. Here she was having a great time on Sunday with Caitlin and me. And yes, she is definitely a lap dog. We hope she finds her forever home very soon.

 

 

 

 

 

My name is Moo. But I don’t really think I look like a cow, do you?

Moo is a delightful two-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She is full of energy and yet can be calm and gentle after a play session. She knows sit, down, and shake already, and since she loves treats, and is very smart, she will be a blast to take to our WHS training classes. She is also house-trained. Moo is looking for an active family with children 13+, since she is a big girl and can be a bit jumpy when excited. Moo LOVES to play with other “Rough and Rowdy” dogs like herself, but she’ll need to meet any potential dog siblings, to make sure their play styles match. Moo will be a wonderful new member for a family who wants a young, energetic, very trainable girl who loves her people. She enjoys hanging out with Marianne and Caitlin.

 

 

 

I’m a gentle giant, great with children. Do your kids need a new best friend?

It isn’t often that we have a dog who is so gentle that he is rated PG+5, but our sweet Hound, Langston, is such a boy. He has lived with small children as well as older ones happily. Langston is a shy, four-year-old, eighty-pound Hound mix. While he does the typical “hound howl” in his kennel, once outside he is totally quiet, and one of the sweetest Hounds we’ve ever had at the shelter. Langston is house-trained, knows basic commands and loves people. He is quite stressed at the shelter with all the noise and activity. He will need an understanding family who will give him time to relax and build his confidence. He is afraid of car rides, so will need some slow, positive experiences with cars to learn they are not scary. Langston has done well in playgroups, is a social mingler and while he will play a little, he mostly follows other dogs around. His favorite thing to do is be with people. Here he is with some of his many fans, including Marianne, Caroline, and Caitlin. Langston needs to get out of the shelter into a real home.

This bundle of happy energy is Ivan, a one-year-old Terrier mix who loves Caitlin and Marianne.

 

 

Angus, a one-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, is still waiting for his forever home. Here he is with Jolene.

 

 

 

Petrie is a nine-year-old Chihuahua mix, here with Marianne.

 

 

Our senior Spike has come down with a cold, so is recovering in the ISO kennels, but here he was last week with Jasmin. Spike is a ten-year-old Rat Terrier mix.

 

 

Molly is a newbie, a two-year-old Australian Kelpie mix who is such a nice girl. Here she was on Sunday with Caroline.

 

Kona

I was thrilled when I got this note about sweet Kona this week. She was so shy and frightened when she arrived at the shelter, but quickly warmed up and was such a good girl. Here she is in her new home. Her person wrote: “Kona is fitting right in, she is perfect!”
