Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

Sunday was a BIG day for all of us at WHS, both staff and volunteers. It was the sixth annual WillaMutt Strut! It seems impossible that it’s been six years since volunteer Krystal Kraig first sat in Susan Carey’s office and pitched her idea of a run/walk fundraiser at Riverfront Park. This year’s event was fantastic in so many ways. The weather was perfect, the vendors’ booths, the activities and both the races and the walk all were great successes and we set a new record with over 600 participants! I was there, camera in hand, and tried to capture the excitement and happy energy of so many dog lovers and their canines. Here are a few of my favorite shots of the morning.

These dogs never stopped smiling!

Happy couple, happy dog.

WHS dog walkers, do you remember Pepper, a sad-looking little black Poodle mix who was so covered with mats it was hard to see the dog underneath? Well, look at her now!

Our wonderful partner, Bailey’s Journey Swim Therapy, was there!

One of my favorite activities each year is the “My dog will eat that” contest.

I laughed out loud when I saw these folks!

You know those Giant Fluff Balls that we get for the shelter dogs? Well, Pets Etc. is where we get them.

I loved how happy these two were.

Even some Great Danes brought their peeps!

I think he was trying to figure out if Stuffy was a real dog.

Will he eat a banana?

And this is what he carried around all morning!

Here are two of my WHS friends with one of my favorite shelter dogs ever, Ruby.

Shelter Dogs at the Strut!

“We went to the Strut hoping that our forever families might find us.”

Girlie is still waiting for her forever home. She is such a favorite at the shelter and is perfect in so many ways. She is a seven-year-old mixed breed who needs a home where she is the only pet. She loves to snuggle and would be great with kids eight and older. Here she is with two of her biggest fans, Marianne and Susan.

Spike is a ten-year-old Rat Terrier who is such a gentle, sweet boy. He’s looking for a retirement home without small children. He will make a terrific little best friend and is one of Jasmin’s favorite shelter dogs. And who would have guessed Spike can read?!

Buzz is also looking for a retirement home where he can spend a lot of time outside in his fenced yard, relaxing. He is an eleven-year-old Retriever mix, here with his fans, Robin and Chloe.

Dixie is a three-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix and is one of the happiest dogs at the shelter with a great sense of humor. She loved being at the Strut with Patricia. We can’t understand why she hasn’t been adopted yet!

Fredrick is another senior, an eleven-year-old Retriever mix. He is one of the calmest dogs we have. He’d like nothing more than relaxing with his peeps after taking a short walk around the neighborhood. Laura loved having him at the park for the morning.

Jelly is a newbie, a one-year-old Shepherd youngster who is an eager, happy girl. She has a hold, so we’re hoping she’ll be going home very soon. She thoroughly enjoyed her time with Jenn on Sunday.

Feona is another one of our favorites, a three-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. This the-water-bowl-is-half-full kind of girl LOVES being with people and has some great friends at the shelter. She had a wonderful time with Christine and her kids at the Strut.

The 2017 WillaMutt Strut: The Movie!

And on that happy note, that’s it for this week!

Remember, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the Willamette Humane Society soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.
