Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,
I’m back after a brief break and I have some terrific dogs to tell you about. First of all, I had planned on featuring Sabbath in tonight’s post, but he was adopted on Sunday. I made a movie to use, and I first posted it on his profile page on the WHS website. That’s where his future family saw it and fell in love with our boy. So even though Sabbath is now settling into his new home, I thought I’d show you the movie that made his new family fall in love with him.
Have a wonderful life, Sabbath!
The four dogs I want to tell you about in this post have been waiting for their forever families for quite a while. I’m so hoping they won’t have to wait much longer! I made them movies, too, hoping that their future peeps will see them and fall in love just like Sabbath’s did.
A lot of people here love me, but I want a real family of my own.
Lincoln has been waiting for his forever family since late August. This stunning boy is a one-year-old action-packed mixed-breed dog who is looking for an active family to love. Lincoln will need one with older children 13 and up, as his enthusiasm for just about anything can be a bit overwhelming for small children. He can be picky about his dog friends, but would love to go home with a social, active, and tolerant female. He’s been learning lots with our Training and Behavior Team who have been working on impulse control skills with him. This boy is very smart and has made great strides in his training. He enjoys practicing agility stunts and playing learning games since it means he gets lots of treats, which he loves.
Here’s Lincoln having fun in Mary’s Place.
And here he was today during a training session with one of the Behavior Team trainers, and one of his favorite people, Linda.
I was here a long time, then I got adopted, then I came back. I’m hoping for a forever home for Christmas!
Scarlett is a two-year-old Lab/Mountain Cur mix. She came to us as a transfer from Hawaii last April. She loves children 10 and older, but needs to be an only pet. Scarlett has a wonderful personality, is attentive, and eager to please. Her love of cheese bits makes her a dream candidate to learn new skills. She likes to go for walks, to play with toys, and to hang out with her people. And she has one of the best smiles! Scarlett has been adopted three times. The first adopter had to return her due to landlord issues. The second adopter was concerned about her leg (an old injury which is okay now) and the third adopter was moving and couldn’t take her with them. Scarlett has gained some weight and she would like help getting her slim figure back. She is looking for a calm home, as she can become over-stimulated when there is a lot of commotion. We at the shelter love our girl and want her to finally land in a forever home. She deserves it.
Here she was before her last adoption with Jenna, one of her favorite volunteers.
Here’s her movie from before her last adoption.
I’ve been waiting a long time, too! Could you be my person?
Maizie is a six-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix and has the best grin in the world. She was found as a stray and we can’t figure out why she has not been adopted yet. Maizie is looking for a family with older kids, as she has a lot of energy, and she needs to be the only pet. On November 30, a volunteer took Maizie to the Salem Center Mall for “Dogs’ Day Out.” She traveled great in the car, “even curling up in a ball and snuggling next to her handler in the back seat.” Once at the mall she walked nicely on leash, was social, wiggly, happily meeting about a dozen people. She was polite passing people and was even well-mannered around another shelter dog, though they were not allowed to get too close to each other. Maizie will make a terrific family member! Here she is in Mary’s Place with Caitlin, and I wanted to make a movie to show her in action.
I’m back! I’m looking for a dog-savvy family to share my enthusiasm for life!
Serena is a three-year-old mixed breed girl. She came to us from a new shelter partner in New Mexico. She was adopted once, but returned because she can be quite reactive to other dogs while on leash. However, she plays beautifully in our shelter play groups and is considered a “helper dog” by the playgroup staff. Serena is active, eager, and smart. She needs some training on taking treats gently and walking politely past other dogs. A home with older kids and a family who are experienced dog owners would be perfect. She will need exercise and some additional training, but she is so worth it!
She loves to play in Mary’s Place!
Benjamin is a three-year-old mixed breed boy, here with Shannon and Elizabeth. Such a nice dog!
Pua is an eight-year-old mixed breed girl, here with Francis.
Hoagie is a newbie and is a three-year-old Retriever mix, here with Caitlin. He proved to be a totally goofy boy!
Introducing Barnaby Russell
I’m going to end this post with a personal note. I know this is a dog blog, but I’d like to introduce you to a new member of the Russell family, Barnaby. My husband and I adopted Barnaby last Sunday from WHS. He’s a two-year-old small Tuxedo who weighs only six pounds! He is a polydactyl cat, with seven toes on his front feet and five on his back. He was found as a stray and is extremely shy. We are taking it slowly as he adjusts to his new home. It’s going to be great to have a cat in the house again!
And that’s it for this week!
Remember, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the Willamette Humane Society soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.
