Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,

Sometimes the stars align and a dog whom you’ve wanted to get adopted for a long time finally gets adopted. We were thrilled on Sunday when this couple came, fell in love, and took Mary home.

 

 

I had planned to feature Mary again in this post. So on Friday, Marianne and I had taken her to Cascade Gateway Park and Bentley’s Coffee for a pup shake. That evening I processed the pictures and started to make her a movie. Then, to our delight, Mary went home. What to do about her movie and pictures? Well, I’ve decided to show you the movie and a few pictures anyway, since we three had such a delightful afternoon.

 

 

Bentley Coffee is a wonderful friend to WHS. The staff delights in seeing our dogs and supports the shelter in many ways. Mary was entranced by the entire Bentley experience.

 

 

 

 

Once back at the shelter, Mary thoroughly enjoyed her peanut butter/banana pup shake!

 

We are hoping we’ll get an update about Mary in her new home. And who knows, maybe she’ll get to have another pup shake sometime.

 

 

 

Hawk and Pam’s Excellent Adventure!

Mary wasn’t the only dog who got to go to a park on Friday. I met Jolene and Linda at Bush Park that morning for an outing with Hawk and Pam. Pam is currently in foster care with Linda. We all had a great time exploring.

 

Hawk is a four-year-old mixed-breed dog from Alabama. We know that Hawk has not had a very happy or social life, as he arrived extremely apprehensive about almost everything. But gradually over the past couple of months, Hawk has begun to trust those who have spent lots of time with him. He now shows his true happy personality when with them, as you saw in his movie with Jolene and Linda. They have been working to expand Hawk’s world. Hawk is still fearful and startles easily, but he is making progress.

Hawk is waiting for a special person who will continue to help him discover that his new world is not the scary place he fears. It will take time, effort, and love. But what a wonderful reward it will be when Hawk realizes he is going to have a safe happily-ever-after. And to help with that, his adoption comes with complimentary post-adoption lessons.

We really did have a fun time at Bush Park.

 

When I arrived at WHS on Sunday morning, I found the four of them hanging out under a tree.

We’re hoping that Hawk will be found by his perfect person who has the patience, time, and love to give Hawk the security he needs to continue gaining confidence.

 

 

 

 

When the photographer gets a bit carried away with taking pictures and doesn’t realize, until she’s processing pictures that evening, that there is no dog in the photo!

 

Always ready, Marianne has pooper scooper in hand, forgetting I’m taking pictures!

 

 

 

 

 

We have two wonderful updates this week!

Montegro/Monty

Remember our sweet Hawaiian transfer, Montegro, who had been attacked by a wild animal, losing part of his mouth? We all fell head-over-heels in love with this gentle giant and we worried about who would adopt him. We didn’t need to worry.

We got a wonderful update a couple of months ago, and last week got this one:

“We couldn’t be any more happy with our precious Monty! He is so happy and fun- loving. Every day he makes us smile. We were blessed to have adopted him ❤️.  I’m sending you pics from home and from our last visit to Lincoln City. Thank you.”

 

 

 

Orion/Makani

This is such a feel-good story! Dog lovers sometimes find a stray dog, and although they might wish they could keep it, can’t, and bring it to the shelter to find a new home if the owner can’t be located. Such was the case with Orion and Kristine. Here’s her story:

“I found Orion at the end of our driveway and loved him right off the bat, but he was very young and I just didn’t feel like he would be a good fit with our three senior boys at that point. He was adopted very quickly and I think about him and wonder how he’s doing frequently, in addition to regularly checking the site to make sure he hasn’t come back.”

Here Orion was at the shelter. What a cutie!

 

Well, last week I was thrilled to get this update from his family:

“When we adopted Orion in May, we decided to name him Makani which means wind in Hawaiian. We didn’t know too much about Makani when we first adopted him, but since then we have learned that he loves running around with other dogs at the park, chasing after his favorite ball, cuddling and taking naps after lots of running around. He also enjoys the water so much that even when it isn’t bath time he loves to sit in the tub anyways. Makani is a very good boy and loves smiling with his tongue out to the side. We are very happy we adopted him because he has brought so much happiness to us and we can’t wait to watch Makani grow more!”

 

Needless to say, Kristine was overjoyed to know what a wonderful home Orion got! And on that happy note, that’s it for this week!
