Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,
There were two dog adoptions last week, and they were very special ones.
Cooper
Our sweet Cooper has arrived at his new home in—wait for it—San Francisco, California! Here’s what WHS Trainer Nicole wrote: “Cooper will be California dreamin’ with his new person. He’ll be living the high life in San Francisco with a swimming pool!” His new person loves to hike, so Cooper is going to have wonderful adventures. And his new dog bed is waiting for him in his new home. Before he left WHS, Cooper had something he wanted to say.
And there’s more! Today we got this wonderful update from Cooper’s new person:
“We’re in love! He did great on the car ride. He’s already made himself at home here, amazing! And he seems to have totally bonded with me. Sleeps quietly through the night on his new dog bed in my room. Loves playing and walks. Showing him around the yard for the very first time, within two minutes he managed to fall in the pool! I led him to the step to get out on his own.”
Forest
I started writing this blog post on Monday and featured our silly boy, Forest. Little did I know that the day before he had had a feeling…
And he was right! Yesterday Nichole wrote, “Forest has found the perfect home—two Department of Corrections employees who will be taking the big, goofy boy on hikes, car rides to the beach and river, and to the pet store. He’ll even get to chill on the couch and watch movies. His new name is Gunner. Lucky dog!”
We are thrilled for both of these terrific dogs who have such bright, happy futures!
The Adoption Process
WHS is keeping people safe while continuing to match dogs and cats with their perfect fits of families. WHS is open for adoption appointments 10:00 – 3:00 every day.

A loving retirement home, yep, that’s what I’m hoping for.
Are you looking for a laid-back, sweet and gentle senior who only wants some strolls around the neighborhood and then to hang out, dozing by your side? If so, you need to meet Rocky.
Rocky is a Labrador Retriever mix and is about eight years old. He was found as a stray, so we don’t know anything about his past. When he arrived at WHS, the intake staff member wrote, “He was very friendly when I approached his kennel and started wagging his tail with his ears perked up and soliciting attention. I gave him some treats and he accepted them very gently. I opened his kennel and he walked into the room and was very happy, still wagging his tail and staying close next to me. I gave him some more treats and asked him to ‘sit.’ He hesitated at first, then sat down.”
Rocky had some age-related health issues which have been treated by our vet. He had both a dental cleaning and a small mass removed from his body. He is now ready to find his retirement home.
Rocky loves attention and gets excited when he knows he’s going for a walk. He walks well on leash unless he sees something exciting that he wants to check out; then he will pull some. He has been in our shelter playgroups and seems to be selective in his dog friends. WHS Trainer Jessi writes, “The first playgroup he attended he was kind of forward (but he was with a group of young, rough boys) and he did show some reactivity. But the second time, he was much less stiff and was also very interested in handler attention.” Rocky will need to meet any dog he will be living with.
Because of Rocky’s age and some arthritis, he is rated for children about thirteen and older who will be gentle with him. We think Rocky is house-trained.
Like a typical Lab, Rocky loves to play fetch and is very treat-motivated (cheese is a favorite). He enjoys being petted on his chest. His favorite thing to do is to relax near his people. WHS Trainer Nichole writes, “He fell asleep in my office while I was on a video conference call.”
If you are looking for an uncomplicated, easy-going best friend who will love just being by your side and will believe you make the sun rise and set fill out the Adoption Questionnaire by clicking on the link “Ask About Rocky” under his picture on the WHS adoptable dog page found here: https://whs4pets.org/adopt-a-pet/dogs-2/
Rocky was JUST ADOPTED tonight at 6:30!
WHS Trainer Nichole writes: “His new family has three acres and is looking for a laid-back Retriever. Bingo!”
We are over the moon for this wonderful senior!!
There are no other dogs currently available that I have not already featured, so I’ve decided to add a few new pictures and links to some of my previous posts, hoping a new reader will see them or a regular reader will think again!
Sherlock
“Such a sweetheart. Calmest Hound I’ve ever met.” That’s how WHS Trainer Nicole described Sherlock to me in an email.

Riley
Riley LOVES his pool time. Here he was on Sunday. What a wonderful character he is!
Riley doesn’t mind sharing his pool. Here he and Emma were this morning.

Jethro
Jethro has been waiting quite a while for his perfect family fit. He needs a country setting where he will thrive.

Mandy
Mandy is such a lover of playing fetch. She almost always has a ball in her mouth. When WHS Trainer Jessi sent me this picture, she laughed, “I think Mandy should be the spokesdog for Penn tennis balls!”

Hulk
Are you partial to Bully Breed dogs with their big blocky heads and goofy wide-mouth grins? If so, take one look at Hulk and you will be smitten. Hulk loves to be outside in the big yard. Here he was this morning posing for WHS Trainer Jessi.

We’re hoping that our available dogs will be adopted soon. As always, I want to thank WHS Trainers Jessi and Nichole for making this blog post possible with their pictures!
On that note, that’s it for this week!
All of the dogs I have featured today, along with other terrific dogs waiting to be adopted, can be found at Willamette Humane Society. Here is the link to the adoptable-dog page:
