Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,
The Oregon winter rains have arrived, but that hasn’t stopped three wonderful dog adoptions during the past week. Here are the lucky dogs who are settling into their new homes.
Sherman
Remember Sherman from last week’s post? Sherman hasn’t had a very stable life so far, but that changed on Sunday when he went home with his new family. We couldn’t be happier for this much-loved dog.
Teke
Teke was another one of our rescued Huskies from the September Oregon wildfires. She quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite, as you can see here, with WHS Trainer Jessi.
Here she is with volunteer Marianne.
This beautiful girl needed to find and Husky-savvy home and she did! As WHS Trainer Nichole writes, “Another wildfire Husky has found her home. She is going to live with a Husky-savvy couple (their last one lived to 18). We’ll miss our happy-go-lucky, sit-on-your feet girl. Happy Tails, Teke!”
Bucky
On Tuesday, Bucky found his new family! Jessi writes, “Bucky is great! And he was really chill with the small dogs too. He is very nice!” Lucky family!
The Adoption Process

Neva is a stunning three-year-old Siberian Husky/Shepherd mix. At 60 pounds, she is athletic and graceful. She was found as a stray so we know nothing about her history, but she arrived at the shelter very healthy and well-cared for. The first things you notice about her are her eyes—one Husky blue and one Shepherd brown!
Neva walks fairly well on leash and WHS Trainer Jessi reports that Neva is very “chill” and enjoys interacting with people and mingling with other dogs in playgroup.
WHS staff has found Neva happily interacts with them when they walk by her kennel and comes to the front and follows them the length of her kennel door. If she knows you are near, but can’t see you, she will sometimes howl.
Neva will need a Husky-savvy family, a yard with a tall fence, and lots of action. She would love to be your jogging partner. Because she enjoys a good conversation (as in occasional howls) she is not an apartment kind of girl.

I’m young and eager! Let’s learn about life together!
Kova is an eight-month old mixed breed girl who arrived at WHS as a stray. She was quite shy at first, but in the few days she has been at the shelter, she has begun to relax and her sweet and eager personality is starting to shine.
She was very cooperative during her intake physical exam, staff wrote, “She was easy to get out of the kennel and clip on a leash, loose body, wagging tail. She stayed loose during entire exam. Returned to kennel with no issues.”
Our Behavior and Training Manager, Marilyn, also found Kova to be a delight. “She took treats softly from my hand and came through the kennel door immediately. She showed no handling sensitivity, gave me her attention when I called her. She snuggled for pets and rubs.”
Kova was somewhat nervous when first in playgroup and meeting other dogs, but slowly warmed up and relaxed. She does need some work on loose-leash walking, but since she is very treat-motivated, she will be a quick learner through rewards-based training.
Since she was a stray, we don’t know anything about her history with cats or children. Since she is still a youngster, she will need lots of exercise and her new family will have fun training her in new skills.

I just arrived at WHS and I already have the staff and volunteers wrapped around my paw. Now it’s YOUR turn!
Are you looking for a perky, happy-go-lucky, pint-sized bundle of energy? If so, at seven pounds, Tallulah, is just what you have been waiting for.
Tallulah was found as a stray so we don’t know what her life experiences have been, but she is a confident, social girl who can’t wait to meet her new family. We think she is about two years old.
The Intake staff found her to be “friendly, tolerated all handling, and was very socially motivated. She wasn’t interested in treats, but wanted to jump up on laps, wagging her tail.”
In our shelter playgroups, Tallulah mingles with a loose body with other small dogs. She keeps a little distance from other dogs, but stays near the group.
Since we have no history, we don’t know how she would be with either cats or children.
One thing is for sure, Tallulah will keep her new family laughing. Yukon is a stunning Siberian Husky mix who is in search of a special home. At eleven years old, Yukon is a senior. He was rescued during the September Oregon wildfires and brought to WHS.
Yukon is waiting for a Husky-savvy family who understands the breed and can provide the kind of environment that he will need to thrive.
Yukon has been an outdoor dog his entire life and as far as we know, has never been inside a house. He also has had limited interaction with the world and people. He will need time, patience, and positive reinforcement to learn to be part of a family. He will also need either a large yard with a high fence or, even better, an enclosed outdoor kennel to live in as he is gradually introduced to the indoors. Yukon has won the hearts of everyone he has met at the shelter and has come so far. I’m a little older and calmer than a youngster and I will be your best cuddle buddy!
Are you looking for a new best friend who will look at you adoringly and listen to whatever is on your mind with great empathy? If you are, come and meet Lila, an eight-pound, eight-year-old Chihuahua mix who is an absolute delight.
Today Lila enjoyed some time hanging out with Marianne inside while it rained outdoors.

Sherlock is still hoping that his perfect family fit will find him soon. I first wrote about Sherlock in my July 22nd post. He had been found as a stray on July 6th. He was adopted a few weeks later, but he was not the right fit for the family and was returned. I’ve written about this active boy several times, but his perfect family has not found him yet. Maybe they will see this post and come take him home. He needs a Hound-savvy person who will appreciate and love his Hound personality.
