The Oregon fall rains have started and are in full swing, which made me wonder if all of my Sunday pictures would have to be taken indoors. I had ten new dogs to photograph. Luckily, the showers held off until we were just leaving the shelter. And thanks to my outstanding team of photography assistants, we got all ten newbies done and even had some extra time to spend with Popcorn, this post’s featured dog.
Just before I published last week’s post, I found out that Buddy had been adopted. I quickly added the news. Later that evening I received a going-away picture from Adoption Specialist Kristina of Buddy with his new home. We are all so happy for this boy who waited since July for his perfect family.
Buddy
Max
Fellow volunteer Marianne and I fell instantly for Max the moment we met him. There was something about this shy, worried little dog that grabbed us. We spent extra time with him and he gradually warmed up to us, but still seemed so worried. I featured him in my October 13th post, hoping his new family would see it.
Max didn’t have to wait too long. A friend of mine with an elderly deaf and blind little dog was thinking about adding a new family member. When she, her husband, and Devy, the dog, came to meet Max, it was love at first sight.
And here they are settled in at home. Max is doing great and he’s going to have a wonderful life!
Ronin
We are so excited that Ronin was adopted on Tuesday! Last week I featured him, hoping he would soon get a new home. He seemed so sad on Sunday. But now he is settling into his new family with a person who has experience with Huskies.

I first met Popcorn a week ago and was instantly smitten. I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog who had so many different expressions that make it so easy to know what he is thinking. Take, for example, this one with Megan.
Popcorn is a nine-year-old Catahoula Leopard/Welsh Corgi mix. He was surrendered because he became overwhelmed when two additional people with multiple dogs moved into his person’s house. Due to his resulting anxiety, we know he will be much happier as an only dog in the home. While he can be timid at first meeting, he very quickly warms up and soon lets you know that he is a lap dog and a snuggler. The first time we met him, we took him outside to see if he’d like to romp. He did, especially when Megan ran with him.
He adores Nichole and also posing with Marianne.
Popcorn’s former family told us a lot about this clown of a dog. Besides playing in his back yard, he loves to just hang out in the house sitting with (or on) his people. He is house-trained and will go to the door and scratch when he needs to go out. His favorite treats are peanut butter and bacon bits. We soon discovered he also likes cheese bits. He walks well on leash. His is afraid of sudden noises, hats, and face masks although he seems to be used to staff and volunteers wearing masks at the shelter now. He does not do well riding in the car—he gets carsick unless he is crated. Popcorn will need a feline-free home. He does fine when left alone in the house. Asked how they would describe Popcorn, his former family said, “loving, mellow, lazy and needy.”
This Sunday because of the rain, we spent some quality time with Popcorn in Mary’s Place. We had a quiet, relaxing time. The pictures tell the story…

Popcorn doesn’t enjoy being in his kennel at the shelter and is reluctant to return to it after being out and about. As you have seen, he thoroughly enjoys getting to spend time in Mary’s Place with people who love him.

Sky
Sky is an eight-month-old Chihuahua mix who arrived at WHS because her person had too many dogs. Since she had not been fully vaccinated yet, she could not go outside or be with other dogs when she was first at the shelter. But she got lots of love and attention from staff and volunteers who came to her kennel and cuddled with her. Staff wrote, “Sky is shy but friendly, likes new people She always comes to the front of her kennel to greet us. She is a tidy, clean puppy who always uses puppy pads and keeps her blankets clean.” Her former family wrote that she is house-trained and would stand by the door when she needed to go out. They described her as “happy, playful, and shy.” She has many fans at the shelter and we can’t wait until she gets her forever family. She’s going to be a wonderful family dog.

Shadow
Shadow was found as a stray, so we know nothing about her past, but she has quickly become a favorite of volunteers. She is a Terrier mix and is about a year old. The officer who brought her to WHS reported that Shadow was good on leash, a good car rider, and has a soft mouth. Volunteers have found that she can be jumpy, but settles for pets and cuddles. We spent some time with her on Sunday and she was a very happy dog. I have a feeling she won’t be at the shelter for long. Megan was an instant fan.

Today I got one of the happiest updates ever!
Marley
Marley came to WHS in September as a ten-month-old puppy, a stray, who was an absolute delight. We had so much fun playing with him and he had such a huge grin. I had planned to feature him in a post, but happily, he was adopted before I could.
Today I got this wonderful update.
“Good morning!
Here’s an update on Marley! She’s getting along just fine. All three of our cats have warmed up to her. One in particular will go up and rub her face into Marley’s snout. She and our other dog, Burton, are just the best with each other! LOTS of play, and, of course, snuggles! We couldn’t have been happier with the luck we got with Marley. I’ve attached a few photos and video.”
What a wonderful life this sweet girl is having!
