Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,
I was not able to make it to WHS on Sunday due to a snow storm which blanketed Salem with several inches of snow. I live in the hills and the roads were unsafe in my area. However, my trusty friend and fellow volunteer Marianne did make it to the shelter and sent me a number of pictures of happy shelter dogs playing in the snow. Thank you, Marianne, for making this post possible! But first—we have four excellent adoptions to report.

Mollie Mae
We were so excited that this exuberant girl spent her first Christmas with her new family. I’m sure they all had a wonderful time! We’ve never seen a happier dog!

Minnie Ann
Minnie was another very happy dog who loved to hang out in Mary’s Place with us. She, too, got to spend her first Christmas with her new family. She was such a good sport about getting dressed up and posing for holiday pictures!

Sky
Sky was adopted yet again! We are very hopeful that THIS time will be the perfect fit for this sweet puppy who just wants to be with her peeps!

Gunner James
We will all miss this comic character, especially his #1 fan, Marianne. But we are thrilled that he is now entertaining his new Bassett hound-savvy family. He is the most laidback dog ever! He will keep them laughing!

Here he was on Sunday playing with Marianne in the snow. What a clown!

And here he is with his new family on Monday. That’s his very excited look!

Please Note: The dogs I feature in this section are available for adoption as of today, December 29, 2021. But things change fast and our goal is always to find wonderful homes for our dogs as quickly as possible. To see if today’s featured dogs are still available and to see other available dogs, click on the link to the currently available dogs here.
As I explained at the beginning of this post, I wasn’t able to get to the shelter due to snow on Sunday. But thanks to Marianne, who was able to get there, I can still write a post. I call it…

Rosie
Rosie is a three-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/American Staffordshire Terrier mix who is smart, loving, eager to learn, and very active. She had a blast in the snow!

Volunteer Lee also made it to the shelter on Sunday and sent me this video of a very happy Rosie in the snow!
You can read all about Rosie in last week’s blog post here. After you read about her, if you think Rosie is a great fit for you, fill out the Adoption Questionnaire by clicking on her picture and then on the link Adopt Me found on this page: https://whs4pets.org/dogs/.
Midas
Midas is a four-year-old Siberian Husky mix. He is stunning. I wrote all about him in my December 8th post. The BEST news is that he went to a Malamute rescue on Tuesday, where he will no doubt find a Husky-savvy family who will love him. He also had fun in the snow.

Just before Midas left for his new life, Marianne took him out to play a last time. They had a very good time.

WHS Trainer Nichole sent me this picture of Midas heading out for his new adventure in a wonderful Alaskan Malamute rescue where he will be in a foster home until he is adopted.

News Flash! We’ve already had a report that Midas’ foster dad is already smitten with this sweet boy!
Stella
Note: Stella has a “meet” coming up, and may soon be off to a new home, so she is no longer on the website or available for more applications at this time.
Stella is a two-year-old Lab mix who is such a hoot. Her person adored her and taught her many things. I wrote about her in last week’s post and am so glad it looks like she’ll be in her new home soon. She had fun in the snow on Sunday.

Pegas
I haven’t met Pegas yet, she arrived at the shelter last Monday. She is a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Retriever mix and is five years old. At 80 pounds, she realizes she needs to lose some weight. She loves action, and being able to romp outside plus fewer treats should do the trick. She’s already made many friends at the shelter. If she hasn’t been adopted, I’ll feature her in next week’s post. In the meantime, here she is enjoying the snow.

Lee also sent this video of Pegas!
If you think Pegas is a great fit for your family, fill out the Adoption Questionnaire by clicking on her picture and then on the link Adopt Me found on this page: https://whs4pets.org/dogs/.
Mr. Shepp
Mr. Shepp is looking for a special home. He is a one-year-old German Shepherd mix with little training. He was found as a stray, so we don’t know his past, and at 90 pounds, he is very strong and a big boy. He is being adopted through our Behavior and Training Department and will need a German Shepherd-savvy person who will have the time and skill to help Mr. Shepp become the well-behaved dog he really wants to be. He enjoyed being out in the snow on Sunday.

If you have had experience with German Shepherds and want to help this youngster learn the basic skills that he needs, fill out the Adoption Questionnaire by clicking on his picture and then on the link Adopt Me found on this page: https://whs4pets.org/dogs/.

Butters
I met Butters right before Christmas, but I couldn’t feature him because he hadn’t been neutered yet. He now is available and is such a delightful young dog. He is a one-year-old German Shepherd mix. He was found as a stray and is a bit shy at first meeting, but warmed up and was a great sport for holiday pictures with Marianne and Megan.

If you’d like to learn more about Butters, fill out the Adoption Questionnaire by clicking on his picture and then on the link Adopt Me found on this page: https://whs4pets.org/dogs/.
Zoe
Zoe, a three-year-old German Shepherd mix, was surrendered to WHS sick and extremely shy and fearful in early December. I tried to take pictures of her soon after she arrived at the shelter, but she was so nervous and scared that I gave up.
What a difference a couple of weeks makes! She is now feeling well and she is gaining more courage and confidence every day. Yesterday I got a message from WHS Trainer Nichole. Zoe had gotten spayed a few days before.
“Yesterday Zoe had her staples removed. Linda was with her. After the removal, she decided to climb into a laundry basket full of blankets! ”

I was thrilled to see her so much more relaxed. To find out more about Zoe, fill out the Adoption Questionnaire by clicking on her picture and then on the link Adopt Me found on this page: https://whs4pets.org/dogs/.

Tiny/Lambchop
You’ll remember Lambchop from last week’s post. Our sweet hospice girl went home with a wonderful person who also has cancer. Here they were at first meeting.

On Monday I got this update:
“Lambchop watches the deer come by for breakfast. She is doing great and seems to be happy. This has been a blessed Christmas for us.”

Cleo
If you read last week’s post, you’ll remember this picture of Cleo meeting her new family.

Yesterday I got this terrific update on Cleo’s first week in her new home:
“Cleo is the BEST behaved little dog! She is so appreciative of every kindness. At this point, she is wary of Alan, even though he feeds and walks her. She wants to be friendly with him and wags her tail off when he greets her and waits at the door if he goes out to feed the birds, etc., but still startles if he makes any quick movements.
At first, she pulled so hard and is SO strong we called her Dozer! She is learning, though. We use the stop and turn technique which works because she wants to please.
She has adjusted well to our very social cat. He is now cleaning her face! She adores having her own toys and carries them for hours. She sleeps quietly and will get on her bed when told. She doesn’t yet ask to go out, but we take her every 1.5 hours or so.
We’ve taken her everywhere and she loves it. Interested in everything and loves the window open! We really wanted a dog that liked to ride.
We think we hit the jackpot with this “Littlest Pit Bull on Earth!” She already has our hearts after eight days! ❤
She’s the best gift we could have given ourselves.”

With that happy update, that’s it for this week!
Once again, my thanks to Marianne for making this post possible and to Adoption Specialist Sasha and volunteer Lee for their additions.
All of the dogs I have featured today, along with other terrific dogs waiting to be adopted, can be found at Willamette Humane Society. Here is the link to the adoptable-dog page: https://whs4pets.org/dogs/
Remember, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the Willamette Humane Society soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.
