Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,
I’m back from my visit to Michigan and boy, do I have a lot of wonderful adoptions to report! First, there were three that I don’t have pictures of: Aries, Ottawa, and Prince.
There would have been many more without photos, but volunteer photographer Lori stepped to work with my photo team to take pictures of new dogs and, as always, she did a wonderful job. Here are the adoptions since October 9th.

Calvin
The tiny dog with the big attitude, here he was with Kate. Photo by Lori.

Thanks to Adoption Specialist Sasha for the going-home photo. Kermit is on the right.

Jax
He was a volunteer favorite, here he was with Marianne.

Red and Chocolate
It isn’t always easy for a bonded pair of big dogs to find their home together, but Red and Chocolate did! Photo by Lori.

Bruno
He was another long-termer who happily finally found his family. Here he was with Megan.

Zoey
What a sweet senior she is at nine years old. Photo by Lori.

Scarlett

Gryphon
This boy lived such a happy life while waiting for his new family. Volunteer Kate fostered him. Here is one of her pictures of him at her home.

Kitchie
This goofy youngster was so much fun. Here he was with Marianne.

Shelby
We knew this little sweetheart wouldn’t be at the shelter for long! Photo by Lori.

Beya
Yep, Beya has been adopted once again. We are all hoping that this home will be her perfect fit. Here she was with Linda. She loves to lean into her human friends.

Well, this is a first! There were so many adoptions in the past two weeks, that as I write this post, the only available dogs on the website are three large puppies. I haven’t met them, as puppies usually are snapped up quickly. But Lori got some pictures of them last week, and since they are still at the shelter, I thought I’d mention them. They are three-month-old Shepherd mixes, and are described by the family who surrendered them as “playful, friendly with visitors, very active, and talkative.” Other volunteers report that they are sweet, cooperative pups. If you are interested in meeting any of the puppies, here is the link to the dog adoption page: oregonhumane.org/adopt/salem-shelter-adopt-dogs/

There will soon be many more adoptable dogs on the website. We took pictures of them last Sunday and what a fun group of wonderful future features they will be!
Halloween Fun!
Volunteer Kate took Hank, her adopted OHS alumnus dog, to the annual Bowser’s Boo Bash fundraiser last weekend. They had a great time. That’s Hank’s happy face! And here is some great news. The event raised over $100,000 for our shelter!

Remember Juicy and Raider (now Rosie and Radar)?
Their person, Kim, sent this picture to me. She wrote, “Happy Halloween from devil (Rosie) and angel (Radar) !!” These two hit the jackpot when they were adopted.

In Memory
Kathy Carroll
I first met Kathy in March of 2012. I was the Wednesday Team Captain, and after she had completed the dog-walking training, Kathy began volunteering on my Wednesday afternoon shift. It was obvious from the day I met her how much she loved dogs, especially Cocker Spaniels. She was a dedicated dog walker and quickly became a friend to everyone on the afternoon shift. It was such fun taking pictures of her for my blog posts because her love for dogs was so obvious in every photo.

Each week, she would arrive with a baggy full of hot dog bits and a happy smile.

In February of 2013, a young dog named Bo was surrendered to the shelter. Kathy was instantly smitten. This is what I wrote in my blog post that week: “I could tell when she met him that it was love at first sight. Here is a picture I took of them on one of their first walks. Bo was still a one-year-old puppy then. It wasn’t long before Kathy knew she had to adopt him.” She did and Bo has had a wonderful life with Kathy’s family.

Kathy was always a great sport when it came to holidays.

She made touching connections with our shelter dogs and they felt her love.

Kathy was a loyal and dedicated dog walker until March of 2019. I will always remember her contagious smile, her determination to make a difference in dogs’ lives, her kind heart, and her love of shelter dogs.

As always, my thanks to my photo team volunteers Marianne, Megan, Linda, Kate, photographer Lori, and Adoption Specialist Sasha.
All of the dogs I have featured today, along with other terrific dogs waiting to be adopted, can be found at Oregon Humane Society Salem Campus. Here is the link to the adoptable-dog page: oregonhumane.org/adopt/salem-shelter-adopt-dogs/
Remember, if you see a dog on my blog whom you are interested in meeting, try to make arrangements to get to the shelter soon. Some dogs are adopted more quickly than you might think.
